Second Annual
2010 Spring MYHEC Coaches Training
The goal of this course is to prepare coaches for their role while participating in the state MYHEC event and the training period during the months leading up to it. Ideas will be shared and opportunities will be given to enjoy hands on training.
Date: Saturday, March 27, 2010
Time: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: NEW John & Marnie Demmer Shooting Sports Education & Training Center in Lansing, MI. 3365 E. Jolly Rd., Lansing, MI 48910
Cost: $15 covers three sessions, range fee, supplies, morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack. NRA Rifle books will be available for an additional fee of $8. Some scholarships are available by applying before March 21, 2010. Registrations are to be postmarked on or before Sunday, March 21st.
Who is to attend? Team Coaches, those wishing to become a coach and parents who play the role of a coach.
Directions: Take Jolly Rd. exit off of 127, turn east (left) at the light on Dunckel (at end of exit ramp), turn south (right) at the light at Collins Rd. (dead end), turn east (left) on Jolly Rd. (dead end), go through the light at College Rd and the Demmer Center will be on the south (right side of the road) just past College Rd. If you get to Hagadorn Rd., you have gone too far. (NOTE: Directions are the same coming from the south or the north.)

Training Schedule:
8-8:30 am Registration and breakfast snack
8:30 – 8:45 am Opening Session
8:45 – 12 noon Session 1 - Rifle with live fire excercise
12 – 1:00 pm Lunch
1:00 – 3:00 pm Session 2 – Orienteering (Includes break)
3:00 – 4:30 pm Session 3 - Hunter Safety Trail
4:30 – 5:00 pm Coaches Corner & Closing Session
NOTE: Sessions on the schedule may be substituted and/or rearranged to accommodate training personnel. The schedule for the day may also vary according to circumstances.
Description of Sessions:
Session 1 – Rifle: Learn (or refresh) rifle basics – shooting fundamentals, positions, sighting, cleaning, equipment requirements, MYHEC rules & regulations to prepare you to work with and prepare youth for the rifle event. This session will include a live fire exercise on the new ballistic range at the Demmer Center. (Fee included in registration) Equipment and ammo will be provided. Bring your own safety glasses and ear protection. NRA rifle books will be available at an additional cost of $8.
Session 2 – Orienteering: Learn the basics of using map and compass together. This will be an introductory session to get you and your youth on the right track using map and compass skills.
Session 3 – Hunter Safety Trail: Learn tips to help you coach youth and how to master the skill of competing on a Hunter Safety Trail.
Coaches Corner: This session will include guidelines and tips as to how to coach youth and enjoy it. It will include a brief overview of the Rules and Regulations that MYHEC governs by. There will be a question and answer time to allow seasoned coaches to share their experiences and new coaches to get their questions answered.
